Yup, I'm pretty sure all the factory ones were painted black.

I kinda like the ingenuity used to integrate the factory turn signals behind the quad grille. Kinda factory but modded at the same time. I'm really digging the rollback, whats the story on that???

The rollback is my dad's. I think I use it way more than him though. LOL

It is a '78 D300 with a 400 4 speed. It has a '93 Jer Dan bed on it. It is fixed up pretty nice with a little mix of parts like the newer hood and bumpers. Handles most everything we need it too.

Got the Cashmere applied today. Went down pretty well with very little orange peel but did end up with a few small runs and dust nibs that will need sanding. After that I will cut and buff it out. Not too bad, I guess, for my first paint job in about 10 years and never using HVLP before.

A few more of the jambs and sides. I was worried about the removed trim stud spots and welded up holes but overall it turned out decent.

Thanks!

Yes, I just sanded down the top and sandblasted the original wagon wheels from my '79 today.

I hope to have time to spray the sealer and Sable brown tommorow.

Wow, Ty that looks awesome. Great job!!! Cant wait to see it all done with the decals all on it.

We use a palm sander with 1500 grit then 3000 (looks like a foam pad but works amazing) then we start buffing with a cutting compound then a finish compound.

Thanks Ryan! I happy to see it coming together and excited about getting the decals on too.

Is that the sanding process you use for acrylic urethane as well without a clear coat? I have 3 or 4 coats on most everything but don't want to sand through the color.

I might try BC/CC on my Challenger project though. First thing I have got to get the booth intake air designed better though. While spraying the color I noticed a lot of swirling of the overspray which, I think, led to a lot of my "dust" in the paint. Nothing that can't be sanded out but if it were not for the runs and dust I almost would have said good enough for a driver and left it.

BTW: I am using those Harbor Freight "purple" HVLP guns and they worked pretty well. Not bad for $30 bucks on sale.

Busy day and I am tired.

I got the top, wheels, and tire carrier sealed and painted in Sable Brown Metallic. I had just enough paint to get everything done but I was worried for a little while. The wheels took 4 coats too cover, everything else went three. I think the tire carrier will look good in Sable brown vs the factory black, we will soon see.
