I recently bought a project step side 1979 D100 custom in basic trim and need to bring it back into DMV system. However I need to get a picture of the certification label (for GVWR etc.) and the metal VIN tag. Both are on the door jam. Can anyone help? Need to show C.H.P. what it is supposed to be (both of mine were lost by painter). As close to my VIN as possible is best. My VIN is D13AP9S228921. A readable picture is great. Tape off the last few #'s of the VIN if your worried. Thanks
Also looking for parts for this one. Also listed under parts wanted thread.

What State are you trying to register? In California the weight certification label is not needed. The information is on your vin..... D13AP9S228921::: deciphers:
You entered the VIN Number: D13AP9S228921

D1 MODEL DESIGNATION D100 or D150 for 80
3 BODY TYPE Conventional Cab W/Utiline (Step Side Box)
A GVW CLASS 6000 lbs or less
P ENGINE TYPE 318-1
9 MODEL YEAR 1979
S ASSEMBLY PLANT Warren Plant No 1
228921 Sequential Serial Number .

In California, DMV will send you to a Weight Station for Laden Weight Slip. Then you will register your truck with that laden weight certificate.

V.I.N. is also stamped on your frame. Right side passenger rail, outer horizontal area forward of the axle hump and before the rear main body mount insulator.

Thanks for the info. Im in California. I was going to try to have the weight lable reproduced but i was not sure the correct weights to fill in in each spot. Skipp Gibs book has nice examples but they are blank. Should be a cool step side. CHP visit is scheduled for March 8 th. Fingers crossed.

I would brush off the frame VIN and show that to the CHP. After documentation with the CHP,,,, DMV will issue you a new VIN plate and the CHP will install it. Go to RCC.com and use their VIN decipher page and print it for the CHP.
