There was an old guy here in town who had one just like that. He used it to pull his Jon boat to the river. It sat in his yard for several years. I think he crushed it...

Are there any production numbers? How many do you think were made?

Probably a lot of MACHOS made into stuff for sale at Wally World.
Figure they made a few hundred. Nothing to substantiate that #
but it was a record BAD year for Dodge and Full size 4Xs.
Macho's by 81 were beginning to be as dated as Disco and Bell bottoms.
Maybe that's why we are so interested in them. They made a very
bold statement about the times.
81 was the first year for the new body and the last for the MACHO.

The '81 Macho sort of reminds me of my 1966 Olds Starfire. When they started making the Starfire in 61, they were all the rage among the "Jet-Set." By '66, they were totally outclassed by the Toronado and were discontinued. A brief but exhilarating run...
