Those were amazing machines. All of the factory built altered wheelbase cars were acid dipped hardtops(note the wrinkled quarter on Landy's ride) with sedan doors. The sedans were all converted after the fact, with manuals and parts provided by Chrysler. Our beloved Mopar was dead serious about winning, and was lucky enough to have a bunch of gearhead engineers, which put them light years ahead of the competition. Even the street cars, right down to the slant sixes were built around solid race winning engineering. We may never see that level of independent thinking in an automaker again. Too cool. Aint' it great to be a Mopar guy?
