Hey guys what do you think about the bailout? Do you think it is right for our tax money to be spent on companys that pay their CEO's $ 24.8 million a year? They now say they will work next year for $1 dollar yea right. I also own a refrigeration company and when I make a mistake or bid a project wrong it is my ass no bailouts here and I wouldn't accept one anyway you learn from your mistakes not profitt from them. Thats just my take let us know what you think!

I agree orange77. From my own personal experience creating and managing two businesses, I'll tell you that the prospect of failure was a huge motivating factor for me not to allow it to happen. I think if I knew a government entity was there to bail me out of my problems, it would have been very tempting to give up and allow both businesses to fail.

Having the cushion of the government bailing out the auto manufacturers will cause them to turn a blind eye to the very conditions that got them where they are in the first place. When you get down to it, a bail out is essentially subsidising failure. It may cause strife and hardship in the short run, but if they are made to work through their problems without financial assistance, something better will come from it in the end and they will emerge stronger than before.

It really torques me that the auto manufacturers have the luxury of persuading the government to use our money to relieve them of their financial problems. I lean heavily Libertarian with a sense toward Austrian economics... If the "Big Three" are in trouble, let the market place sort it out. This is a "slippery slope" I don't believe we can afford to explore.

One last thought... Here in the Southeast, we've been hit very hard with billions of dollars lost in textile manufacturing and millions of our jobs lost to third world countries. Does anyone think for even a minute that the federal government would have come close to considering bailing the textile industries out?

I am also self-employed and I believe that if a business cannot sustain itself it has to fail. I am totally opposed to the auto bailout as I believe that it only delays the inevitable. Living in Michigan I realize that this would have disasterous results on our struggling economy, but thats the way it is.

Our Society is broken. Starting with our Government.
Shouldn't the question be: Isn't the US too big to fail?
What constitutes failure?

Loss of Manufacturing capacity.
Most of what we consume is made by other countries.
Look at how much of our processed food is coming from
elsewhere.
Electronics, Clothing, and by 2011 or sooner more than 1/2 our
Vehicles.

Our leaders that are most against the Auto Industry Loans are
from states with Foriegn Owned Auto plants.

It's becoming, everyman (state) for himself.

Divide and conquer. And it will be much easier if we are
all busy playing in our virtual worlds.

OOPS, I gotta get outside.

I just read where Chrysler is closing down all production. They do that anyway this time of year but are going to remain closed two weeks longer than usual. Story here.

I guess you guys know by now I'm a wee bit biased toward Challengers when it comes to cars. This Chrysler dealership I go by about once a week has had three Challengers in the show room for a couple of months now. I'd love to have one, and I'm sure they're cutting prices... but like most everyone else, I'm watching my pennies right now. :|

I think they should come out with a special addition tagged "Vanishing Point" complete with white exterior and stick on the floor. Would be very tempting...
