The first thing I'd do is download the Ubuntu Live CD (see above post), and burn it to disk with Nero or another burning cd writing program. Once the disk is burned, set your BIOS to boot CD before hard drive and boot it up. If all goes well, you'll have a complete Ubuntu Linux system running in RAM to check out. It will have no effect on your Windows install. That way, you can research it a little more to see if it is to your liking. :)
