out of state purchase question.

if you buy a truck from out of state, what can i do to get it home other than a
trailer? i hear about people flying out to buy a vehicle and drive it home all the
time. what is the process and what is needed besides insurance. i understand
that is necesary.

Thanks

In my case I'm just letting the guy use my plates to get it back and then he's sending them back to me. He's putting insurance on it before he drives it home.

I recently brought a vehicle home from California -- I flew out and made a 2 day drive out of it.

This was from a dealer so I had all the paperwork and a "1 trip" tag in the window. I got an insurance card from my insurance company in advance so I had that with me on the way back.

If this is a private party sale, check with the local DMV to see if you can get a temporary registration / trip permit for the vehicle -- if not make sure you have title/bill of sale/paperwork AND proof of insurance readily available in case you should get pulled over. If the current owner is willing to let you drive off with his plates, make sure they're not expired as that could draw more attention to you than driving without.

Just brought one back from Florida.
The seller said great running, driving, no exhaust
leaks, new tires, no problemo.

Buddy reminded me of how many stupid things
I've done in the past, and talked me into trailering it
home.

I knew it was going to need some mechanical work,
but after really inspecting it and a little spin around the
block, I was really glad I trailered it.

No trailer....

Have it transported.

Rates are cheap.

I just got cross country quotes for a p/up
Ca to NY for for 850-1100$
