I'm going to look at a Sprit of 76 dodge truck this weekend. Whats the deal with these trucks? Were they all step sides? Factory option or dealer? Any codes on it to prove it's a real deal?

A "Spirit of '76" is different from a "True Spirit" truck.
As far as I know all Spirit of '76 trucks were 2WD long bed straight box sides.
All were painted white with patriotic star stripes running down the sides and '76 stickers.Low buck trucks with most probably if not all having a /6 engine. This was a factory decal package to commemorate the bi-centennial year and I would assume could be purchased from any dealer.I don't know if it is possible to find out how many were actually produced, but while not as flashy as some of the other trucks, these are still pretty neat and still worth saving.I 've had a lead on one about an hour or so away from me sitting in a JY,if it's in any shape at all,it will be coming home with me. :D

I really have no ideal if there are any codes on the core tag to I.D. one for sure, but if there is anything left still visible of the original decals there should be no way to mistake it. Anyone have good pictures of one ?

Now a 'True Spirit' truck...thats an entirely different story... :geek:

you are correct, most were low end lwb 2wd /6 trucks, but I have an equipment label from one that was a 318 short bed. There is a specific code for the decal program on them. There is also another swb spirit of 76 float around my area, and a local furniture dealer had a /6 3 on the tree lwb spirit of 76 back about 15 years ago.....I have to find that label...

Post subject:  Is this a Spirit of '76 Truck?

Saw this is a junkyard today, would never known if it's possibly is but there are some slight decals left hidden, What do you think? Someone didn't like the blue and white stripe tho.. the vin sticker said 8-75, but could that still be a '76? even though the VIN says '75?
was a plain jane 318 auto, long box 2wd
vin# D14BE5149802

Post subject:  Re: True Spirit..

that is an awefully late 75 with the sprit of 76 package on it....
I would love to see one that was a 2wd with a 440 in from the factory....
there was a white short bed 4x4 on ebay a few months back, really ruff, and decals were faded beyond belief...
there was also a red short bed that turned up as well.....both of the above were 318 trucks....the red truck IIRC was a 3 on the tree 318 shorty truck...
