Looks like the forlorn Texas truck has ended up North.

In a good home with a serious fan.

More details to come.

Agreed! Hopefully all the stuff that's been done by the kid is reversible.

It would have been cool to have seen some pictures

of it, when (owner 2 ?) pulled it from the shed.

Story has it, that the original owner was working on it

(a long time ago) and had a stroke. Owner survived

but never got back to the truck, so it sat for many, many years.

One version of the story had the owner, thinking the truck was

cursed, and that's why he never got back around to it.

It looks to be ,by far, the best survivor 81

Very cool bucket seat interior.

Survivor...but...lots of bastardized stuff which unfortunately since he didn't know any better takes away from the truck...but hopefully going to good, caring hands! :D

Well I wish I had some updates guys, but I've been waiting to start a new job with a different company (corporate budget freeze until the end of Q3...so I'm finally starting work next Monday) so funds have been tight the past couple of months.

The only thing I've done on the Macho was install the nice '85 Royal SE grille/headlight bezels. The original grille surround was pretty pitted, had snaps screwed into it for a grille cover, and several dents. I've saved it through as I'm not discarding any parts I've removed/replaced/upgraded!

I would like to get the good, used front bumper I found blasted and powder coated along with one set of spare wagon wheels (have 2 sets). I've accumulated enough center caps to hopefully have once nice set to put on the truck with the wheels.

I'm still on the hunt for low back buckets and a console -- I've contemplated putting some newer spice high backs (Canyon Sport style) with a spare spice center console in for the mean time as I do have the pedestals already.

With all that being said, if we could get a stripe kit made for these trucks I think that'd be a real motivator for me to get cracking on getting the exterior restored, but until then it'll stay as-is (I'm sure my neighbors think I'm nuts as it gets one of two spots in the garage and two late model Audis sit outside in the driveway... )

I'll end this with one question, did these trucks ever come with a factory frame mounted trailer hitch?

The only reason I ask is I've been on the hunt for one for the crew cab and all of them required drilling of some sort and didn't utilize factory holes, however the one on the Macho appears to use factory holes in the frame (albeit no signs of trailer wiring). Although with the 3.21 gears, 31x10.50 tires, and lack of wiring it makes you wonder if it ever really pulled anything at all.

Well, the collector plate rules in Colorado changed...again!

If you're in an emissions testing area you can get collectors plates for 32 year old vehicles and older, BUT it has to pass emissions ONCE every 5 years (plates get tags for 5 years too). :D

Good thing the '81 passes emissions and has all required equipment that the State of Colorado looks for!

so is it the same plate you have on it now, or a totally different plate?
A 5 year plate would be friggin cool... a buddy in PA has an Antique Plate on his 76 D100, and it is a lifetime tag..
I often wonder about CA...the books say 25 model years or older on a non-commercial vehicle, but trucks here are commercial if they have an uncovered bed...

I'll still have my 81MACHO plate, but I'll have to have it transferred to a 5-year collectors plate.

So it'll now look like the attached picture.
