Then that's why it failed. The Edy carb is not jetted correctly. It's going to be an expense to get that Edy carb done right. You should look for the original Thermoquad. Sell the Edy.

Here's a nice one (318-360 fits '80-'86 Thermoquad):

that is NOT the carb he wants, it has been modified...

depending if the truck has a camshaft, it could have a little too much overlap on the valves too.....

I know on top of the Performer 318/360 (non-EGR) #2176 it also has the Performer Plus camshaft kit #2177.

If I'm not mistaken the carb is a #1406 Performer 600 CFM.

I talked with the shop this afternoon and they had the jet kit in and hope to have everything completed Monday.

Eventually I do plan to return everything to stock -- but I'm past due on my temporary registration and I need to get it street legal -- plus I have specialty plates waiting for me at the DMV! ;)

The Macho is legal!

I picked up the truck after work today it it seems like they got it really dialed in -- seems peppier than it was, exhaust definitely smells cleaner, AND it passed emissions. Unfortunately I don't have the failed report (testing station takes it back) but the new results are HC PPM 36.9 at idle, 94.4 at 2500 (limit is 220); CO% .01 at idle, .04 at 2500 (limit was 1.20).

The exhaust shop did a nice job with the cat (Magnaflow 99175HM) and fit it perfectly on the cat-delete pipe where it should be (under the factory heat shield). They also commented (two separate folks) that my buddy and I did a better job installing the exhaust than most shops would have!

Today was an extremely stressful day at work -- so to have the Macho done and fully legal now is a big sigh of relief -- the girlfriend is even taking me out to dinner to celebrate (since my wallet is quite a bit lighter now between the exhaust shop, shop that did the emissions/carb work, and final fees at the DMV)! :D

Thanks guys...I would have been upset if the plate had been taken -- however that could have led me on a search for another survivor! ;-)

Thank you! I do plan to drive it a little more frequently now! Correct carb/intake/cam or not it's running a lot smoother! In time I'll return it to a more stock configuration but for now I just wanted it drivable!

Well I decided to remove the white gauge faces -- they luckily came off fairly easily leaving little residue behind that needed to be cleaned off. Either way I like the stock look a lot better anyhow although I somehow seem to have messed up the gas gauge in the process as it moves somewhat jerky now (but still reads where it should)...

I also figured out why the Chronometer wasn't coming on when the ignition switch was turned on -- my two used units seem to have burned out somehow. They'd work when the headlight switch was pulled out but were dead otherwise (and obviously not holding time either). Luckily the NOS unit I picked up off eBay works like a charm! I did have to swap the little mounting plate attached to it so it'd fit in the instrument panel bracket properly, but alas I have a working Chronometer!
