Sadly, this is not my truck. It is the original '79 from the tv show. Alive, well, and perfectly preserved. The "Holy Grail"
of Machos !

This is the truck that got me interested in Machos back in the early eighties. Thanks for posting this great picture! It's obviously been well maintained. I hope to one day see it up close. Shoot, I hope one day to see an actual Macho up close.

They used this one mostly for exterior shots. The other was an 80 Power Wagon trimmed out to look like the 79 but with an after market roll bar. They used it mostly for interior shots. I watched Simon & Simon regularly when it was on CBS and never noticed the difference between the two truck's roll bars until palomino pointed it out to me!

I found this photo on Facebook under the title "Simon &Simon Truck". It's a little aggrivating that there is absolutely no information except for the picture.
I know that later on they used an '81 cab and front clip mated to an '80 or older bed, and remember the interior of that truck was red, and of the '81 style. That was the one with the aftermarket roll bar. The wrecker bumper on that one was slightly different also. This appears to be the truck used earlier in the series, and is a true Macho. However the red hood still throws me. I just wish there was more info available. I have been fascinated by this truck since I was about 12 years old.

Hi macho781988!

I may have seen one in the days before S & S but if I did, I never knew what it was. Back in the seventies I was an Oldsmobile fanatic and didn't pay close attention to much else. In S & S, I thought Rick's truck was supposed to be a home custom job, having no idea that the Macho was a production vehicle!

I remember LAST440 and palomino talking about the fact that the Macho was marketed primarily West of the Mississippi so that explains a lot. Around here, folks mostly drove Ford and Chevy trucks. Until 1993, you rarely even saw a Dodge truck here. All that's changed. There are a world of Dodge pick-ups on the roads around here now. I always drove Chevy trucks because Olds didn't make one. My first Dodge was a 2006 Power Ram with the hemi that I bought new.

A few weeks ago, I was all set to look at a long bed 78 over near Atlanta, which is pretty close to me, but the owner said it needed brake work. I had intended to drive it back if we made the deal so we postponed. Since then, major expenses in my business have set in so I'm too short on cash right now to even consider a Macho. Business has been good lately so who knows.

That's the long way of saying, "no." Believe it or not, I've never had the pleasure of actually seeing a Macho "in person." I hope to remedy the situation soon. I believe the right Macho for the right price is out there for me somewhere but I guess I'll have to be patient.
