Last weekend I picked up a roll bar from a 78 macho. 318 short bed. It was a factory orange truck. Color looked close to EK2 gomango orange. Truck was very rusty , had been used as a plow truck. How rare is the orange color?

I bought a Red Macho new in 1977 after college. I worked at the dealership I bought it from. I still have the window sticker and the 4 Wheeler Magazine that was supposed to be included with every Macho sold. The Macho was 4 Wheeler Magazines truck of the year for 1977.

They were the first off-road truck package to be equipped the way we know them. Ford came out with one in 78 that was close. It had wheels and a stripe package. The stripes were expensive and you had to buy the whole side. They covered an area about 24" wide the whole middle of the door. Chevrolet never even tried to make an off-road package like the Macho.

I worked at a Ford dealer when the Dodge Dealer went bankrupt during the Chrysler Corp Meltdown of 1978-79.The dealer's name was Burton Dodge in Mt. Airy NC. The real Mayberry NC! Look it up.

All Machos were very rare. There were more Warlocks and Lil Reds by far. It was the only one in my area ever. It was red code DT 3116. There were no orange codes for 1977. What happened to the red was it tends to fade and turn orange. I have been in auto body business for 40 years.

Many years later I moved to SC and moved in next door to a 1978 yellow one! I have pictures of them together. May post later. It is real with the build sheet. It was sold in Easley SC. It has never been wrecked or painted.

After many years I bought the yellow one. I have bought many NOS parts and hope to be finished later this summer 2015 and will try to get it to Carlisle PA Mopar Show.
