I remember reading somewhere that the Macho trucks were sent from the factory to an outside contractor to have the Macho paint, graphics and accessories applied. Does anyone know about this? I would assume it would have been done at the factory, but even though I can't remember where I read it, the article mentioned the name of the shop that did the mods. I also remember the article stating that Machos were primarily a western US thing. |

Macho's were available through out the US and Canada. I would guess that the decals would have been put on in house, and the bars would probably been mounted in the bed when they got painted.... |

Rick Simon wrote: I also remember the article stating that Machos were primarily a western US thing. That explains a whole lot to this old Southern boy! For the longest time now I've been perplexed as to why I have never even seen a Macho! True! I have never seen a real one! Only in pictures! Power Wagons are rare enough here in the Southeast! 98% of the trucks you see here from those years will be Chevy or Ford. When I look for Power Wagons and Machos on Craigslist or Ebay, almost invariably they will be located west of the Mississippi. It's almost a joke in my mind now. I'll see one I'm really interested in, then look for the location of the truck and it will be in Seattle or Sacramento! ![]() The closest Machos I've seen to me were in Tennessee and Virginia. I was really interested in the one from Tennessee and he was asking a reasonable price, but at the time my "hobby cash flow" went to zero and I couldn't justify it. I have hopes my luck will change and I'll find the perfect truck at a time I have the cash on hand to buy it! ![]() |

I should clear up one thing. I by no means meant to say the Machos were not available all over the US, Just that from what the article said, they were more prevelant in the western states. I admit I've only seen a handful of them here in the East, and all have been '78 or older. I've never seen a '79 or '80 in person. ![]() |

I ordered a 1980 Macho new in October 1979. I still have it. It was totally built in the factory. |

Hi Gang- I have a short-bed, yellow, 360 4spd i've owned for 20 years, and have seen a red one in Plymouth, Ma., and a rough red one in Vt. w/a plow. Those are the only ones i've ever seen. |
