Just 5 years and then fees are due again for the next 5 (although it doesn't say it has to pass emissions every 5 years, just prior to getting collectors plates).

Nothing really new with the Macho, but in my quest to find an original '80/'81 AM/FM/Cassette I came across a very similar looking Audiovox clone a few months back. Based on information from allpar.com and other Audiovox units I've come across at the yards in other old Mopars this appears to have been a dealer sold/installed unit.

While not an exact match it's at least functional and almost looks the part (versus the defunct/broken OE unit I have).

Broken OE unit for reference:

Yes they are! I've been looking for over two years now and the two I have are the only I've come across. Had leads here and there but none that were still available or just couldn't make contact with the seller. :?

Those are so similar. Would the faceplate interchange? That way you could still have the Pentastar .

Unfortunately the radios themselves are very different; some of the button locations are different, tape slot is different, even the way the face plate mounts is different (plus the whole unit is assembled differently). It seems like most of the dealer sold Audiovox units were meant to mimic their OE counterparts but not be exact clones.

So the Macho passed it's annual emissions test on the first try this Saturday. I'll be converting the plates to 5-year collector's plates so it won't need an emissions test for 5 years. I'm still keeping the "81MACHO", but have to apply to have it transferred to the new plates.

The two U-Pull-&-Pay yards in Denver were doing 50% off on Monday so the girlfriend and I went (primarily to find parts for her Jeep XJ). I knew they had an '80 Dodge Van in their inventory but wasn't holding my breath. Low and behold it had a set of cashmere low back buckets, albeit the wrong vinyl insert/stitching, but a step in the right direction.

I just had to mount at least one this evening after work (I have two truck pedestals) and just sitting in the bucket transforms the interior of the truck! It does have all 12 holes as expected. The inner holes on the drivers side have nuts welded to the underside, so it all bolted together as expected.

Image

The passenger side is where I'm boggled, I thought all it'd need is a driver side RC/club cab pedestal as well but it looks like (at least) one of the two inner holes is threaded just like the driver side inner holes. But the pedestals have studs on the left side. Plus the spacing of the holes would imply that it needs a pedestal with the opposite stud/hole pattern... :?:

I don't have a cashmere console yet...have a line on one but we'll see. I do have a spice one from a '92 Canyon Sport that I can use for now (and it kinda matches the carpet and seats alright). I'll also need to find the proper buckles as they were swapped out whenever the bench was installed.
